Jane came to see me when she has lost her job as a Senior IT Manager. She was in her later 50’s and planned to stay in this job until retirement and avoid having to market herself in the job market. She felt rejected by the organization and was tired of fighting against the problems in her department.
We spent the first five sessions reviewing her key strengths, values and style. We also explored what made her afraid of job searching. Jane realised that her key strengths and interested were in her role as a coaching style of leader and that her previous organization operated in a more autocratic style. Being different to the other managers contributed to her lack of confidence in approaching the job market.
In the next phase of the program I supported Jane through a complete rewrite of her resume and we discussed and reviewed the most appropriate job searching techniques to achieve her new job goals. After applying these techniques, Jane became very confident to make cold calls to headhunters and tell them why she would be the best person for the job.
Jane soon landed a new role in a government organization and then we spent three sessions reviewing her first 90 days in the new organisation.
